Greer S. Johnson has been elected to the position of Executive Director of The First Tee of the Virginia Blue Ridge, a four-year-old non-profit that uses the game of golf to instill life skills and values in young people.
Ms. Johnson is a 2005 cum laude graduate of Washington & Lee University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in business journalism.
She joins The First Tee of the Virginia Blue Ridge from The Chris Long Foundation in Charlottesville where she was a business development coordinator.
Prior to that, Ms. Johnson worked as a business writer at SNL Financial in Charlottesville and she spent 11 years in the retail business as founder and owner of Duo Boutique in Charlottesville.
The current executive director since 2016, Jin Ellington, is planning to move back to North Carolina with her family. She has led the organization for two years during which The First Tee has grown rapidly, most recently serving 7,881 area young people in 2018.
The First Tee of the Virginia Blue Ridge is one of 155 chapters of the national organization founded by Joe Louis Barrow, son of the legendary boxer, Joe Louis. In just 4 years the Charlottesville-based chapter has expanded its reach to include Charlottesville City, Albemarle, Orange, Louisa and Greene counties and 20 schools and has served a total of 15,225 young people.
In addition to her career pursuits, Ms. Greer has also been active in the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation Future Fund as a member of the Grants Committee and was also a Boys and Girls Club Learning Circles mentor.
She was named by C-Ville Weekly as one of Charlottesville’s 8 young leaders “Pushing Things Forward” in 2011.
